*** UPDATE: Laptop Security and Password Reset ***
Notice:
*** If you missed the deadline, please call x5400 for further instructions ***
Greetings Spelman Community
In response to the recent cybersecurity event and to mitigate additional risk, we are asking the Spelman College community to do two things:
First, install a critical security patch on your laptop or tablet (mobile devices are exempt).
Second, change your OneSpelman and Lotus Notes passwords.
Security Patch
Working closely with cybersecurity experts and forensic investigators, Spelman is making every effort to determine the specific cause and scope of the incident. Spelman Technology Services is requesting that all personnel receive a critical software update on their Spelman issued laptops and tablets. STS staff will be located in the Science Center, Room 230, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. through the end of the week to assist with the installation. It is critical that your device receives the patch by January 14, 2020 to ensure our campus network remains secure.
This update should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Due to the critical nature of the patch,
if this critical update is not installed by January 14
th
, STS will freeze your device(s) until it is brought in for service.
Password Changes
To be consistent with best practices, please remember complex passwords that are more difficult for an unauthorized user to guess are required. Simple passwords, such as “abcd1234” or “password” are easy to remember but are also easy for an unauthorized user to figure out. Complex passwords represent a small investment of time but enhance security substantially.
All passwords must:
·
be at least eight characters long
·
contain at least one uppercase letter, lowercase letter and at least one numerical digit
·
contain at least one of these characters: !@#"$%&*+={}?<>'
STS is requiring all personnel to change their OneSpelman and Lotus Notes passwords by January 14, 2020.
STS will lock all accounts whose passwords are not changed by January 14, 2020, deadline. If you have any questions, please contact the STS Service Desk at 404-270-5400.
